Project: 500 Bourke Street, Melbourne VIC 3000
With Australia's largest consignment of more than 13,000 items, Sustainable Office Solutions Pty Ltd was asked to take on the project of sustainably removing, rehoming and recycling 36 floors of commercial office furniture and ceiling tiles to achieve an 80%+ overall re-homing target, moving towards making the building greener and more sustainable.
We completed the removal phase of the project within a 15-week period, which required a long-term storage and management solution to store items for the ongoing rehoming and recycling phases of the project. As part of the solution, we expanded our storage capabilities by acquiring a 3500 square metre facility specifically for the rehoming and recycling phase of the project.
As part of our efforts to reduce landfill, we donated over 150 fridges, dishwashers and microwaves to various charities such as Habitat for Humanity International and West Welcome Wagon as well as providing Zoos Victoria with furniture from the project. Additionally, we donated more than 400 pallets of ceiling tiles to local building companies to be reused in apartment complexes across the City of Melbourne.
