Warehouse Removals: Be Ready to Move
Is your current warehouse no longer serving its purpose and making it harder to get work done efficiently? It might mean it’s time to pack up and move on to something bigger and better.
Knowing where to start with a big move can be a real challenge - especially for businesses operating warehouses that can’t afford to be offline for long, as delays can impact the bottom line.
The list of tasks required to undertake a warehouse move might seem daunting, but moving to a bigger and better environment might be what your business needs to take it to the next level.
This read is for you if you feel you’ve outgrown your current warehouse. At Sustainable Office Solutions, we are experts in moving, especially warehouse removals. We’ve helped businesses move from one place to another with minimal disruption and made the process smooth and hassle-free for our clients.
In this article, we’ll explain the warehouse removal process and walk you through what you need to take care of to prepare for the big move.
The Warehouse Removal Process
If you’ve moved before, you know it can be stressful. Making sure everything gets from point A to point B without hassle. If you own a business, keeping the business running with little disruption to fulfil client orders can be a juggling act and, therefore, might seem like more than you bargained for.
When you move to a warehouse - where physical products are stored, and you have customers at the other end wanting their goods in a timely and seamless manner, it’s not as easy as just packing up and moving.
The following is a quick and easy guide to help you consider and plan your warehouse move so the process goes as smoothly as possible.
Plan the Move Ahead of Time
It might sound obvious, but if you fail to plan before you move, then you plan to fail. That’s why we highly recommend that when you have committed to relocating, you carefully consider what needs to be done and in what order. For example:
Consider your space and assess how it might apply to your new space, including:
- Picking and packing areas
- Storage
- Loading
If your warehouse business works with sensitive or perishable goods, it’s important to consider what elements will be required when relocating to your new location.
Also, it might be a good time to discuss as a team what has been working in the warehouse from a usability perspective and look at ways to improve what hasn’t been working so that you can make changes in the new space.
Leases, Building Codes & Permits
When you move out of one place and into another, you don’t want to be caught up in red tape - particularly around lease arrangements, building codes and permits. Not having finalised or arranged these could mean your move in or out of your warehouse is delayed, which in turn can impact your day-to-day operations.
The following are things to consider before the big move:
- Have you finalised the lease for your new industrial property and wrapped up the existing lease?
- Are you up to date with building codes and safety procedures relevant to the new building?
- Have you contacted the proper governing bodies, and are you clear on what they expect of your new facility?
- Have you obtained relevant permits to operate before the move, and are they relevant to the new warehouse?
If you have taken care of these elements early on, there will be less chance of any later hiccups.
Moving Day
The move should be smooth if you’ve planned your move and feel you’ve covered your bases. But on moving day, you’ll want to have the time and relevant staff allocated to ensure that things occur when they are supposed to and that there are no major setbacks.
We recommend considering the following for moving day:
Establish Roles for the Move
When it comes time to move, you don’t want to waste time allocating tasks to employees on the day you move. That’s why it’s important to establish roles before the move.
We recommend assigning roles and responsibilities to key staff members well in advance so they are actively contributing to the move, but the heavy lifting and moving should be left to professionals who are trained in moving large and bulky objects, as you don’t want to cause any unnecessary injuries to staff who don’t know what they’re doing.
Use a Professional Moving Company
While you have allocated a team of your staff to help with the move, they may not have the experience in moving to make the process go smoothly. Transitioning from one place to another as smoothly as possible is a priority for businesses, so that’s where employing a professional moving company comes into its own.
Professional movers take the hassle out of moving but have the appropriate tools and know how to ensure the move goes to plan.

What Our Clients Have to Say
We recently renovated an office and used Clean and Gone to help us with some asbestos removal, demolition and strip out works.
Whilst they were on site, we were speaking of our plans for the office and they suggested we visit the warehouse for the above business and we are glad we did. Doing so saved us a lot of money.
The warehouse had an enormous array of high quality office products. We floored our office using their high quality carpet tiles – and the company we engaged to install them could not believe we’d obtained them second hand in such good condition.
We also purchased workstations and window coverings, again in near new condition at significant discount to what new would have cost. We even got dual monitor arms for our computer screens – which are a favourite with our staff as they really free up desk space.
Isaac Bennett in the warehouse was a great help on the phone and via email – but I’d definitely suggest a trip to the warehouse itself – the website just doesn’t do justice to all the great stuff they have there, and Isaac explained they always have items coming in and going out, so a visit is the best way to see what’s there. They are very well located. We are really pleased with the products and the service we received, not to mention
the office we've finished up with. I’d be happy to chat with Anyone who wanted to hear more about our experiences.
